Kandy to Minneriya National Park Day Tour
Overview
During this tour we will be going to the following destinations – Matale Hindu Temple, Ayurvedic village, Dambulla Cave temple, Sigiriya, Jeep Safari in national park. The guests will be provided with good quality, comfortable vehicles (vehicle type depends on the number of people) with a driver-guide to help with your tour.
Itinerary
- We will pick you up from the hotel in Kandy in the morning and transfer you to Sigiriya. On the way, we will be visiting the Matale Hindu temple, where you will explore the temple for half an hour.
- Sri Muthumariamman Temple is dedicated to Mariamman, the goddess of rain and fertility. One of the most visually dominant features of this temple is it’s 55 m (180 ft) high Gopuram (‘Raja Koburum’), a large decorated tower located above the main northern gateway (‘Vadakku Veli Veedi’) to the temple.
- Next we will stop for a Ayurvedic Village, where you will sight see and discover the village for an hour.
- We will continue our journey to Dambulla and will be stopping for a taste of fresh corn and King coconut. We will then climb the Dambulla Cave Temple.
- Dambulla – one of UNESO World Heritage Site, is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding area. Major attractions are spread over five caves, which contain statues and paintings. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings and four statues of gods and goddesses.
- Next we will drive to Sigiriya and once reaching there, we will stop to have your Lunch at a recommended restaurant.
- Sigiriya is a one of UNESCO listed World Heritage Site for its best preserved ancient urban planning. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 metres (660 ft) high.
- We will then proceed to a Jeep Safari to enjoy the Minneriya national park.
- Minneriya National Park is a national park in North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The reason for declaring the area as national park is to protect the catchment of Minneriya tank and the wildlife of the surrounding area. Large numbers of Sri Lankan elephants are attracted to grass fields on the edges of the reservoir during the dry season. Elephants gathered here is numbering around 150-200, sometimes 700.
- Afterwards, we will drive you back to Kandy and drop you off at the hotel / any location nearby, confirming the end of this tour.
