Itinerary
- Make your way to the gate of Udawalawe National Park, where you’ll meet up with your private guide. Climb into a sturdy 4×4 vehicle, which gives access to all the rugged areas of the park and offers clear views of the animals.
- Udawalawe National Park lies on the boundary of Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces, in Sri Lanka. The national park was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River, as well as to protect the catchment of the reservoir. The reserve covers 30,821 hectares (119.00 sq mi) of land area. Udawalawe is an important habitat for water birds and Sri Lankan elephants. It is the third most visited park in the country. One of Sri Lanka’s largest parks, Udawalawe is known for its large Asian elephant population, which can number up to 100 in a single herd. Other animals in the park include jungle cats, fishing cats, gray hangers, toque macaque, foxes, bandicoots, mongooses, jackals, wild boar, and water buffalo, among others.
